About FION

FION is a handbag brand founded in 1979 in Hong Kong by master Cheng Rongzhong, who came from a family of cobblers, and by Mr Mai, with the idea of bringing international-standard bag technology to China. Its official English website tells that craft heritage and explains that by the 1980s the brand was already opening stores in Macao, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, and that in 1992 it set up its production base in Huizhou.

Its catalogue consists of handbags, backpacks, crossbody bags and small leather goods for women, with series that combine traditional Hong Kong craftsmanship with contemporary art. Its best-known material is the so-called oil-painting woven fabric, developed over three years with Taiwanese suppliers and first applied to bags in its 2020 series, hand-stitched by artisans with decades of experience.

FION keeps stores and counters in mainland Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing, in addition to its presence in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, and sells online through its official Hong Kong and Asia domains. It is a brand with its own name, website and activity; its Asian parent was acquired in 2014 by CHJ Jewellery, which is noted here for group purposes.
