About Manner Coffee
Manner Coffee is a Chinese specialty coffee chain founded in Shanghai in 2015 by Han Yulong, starting out in a tiny storefront of just a few square metres in the city's financial district. Against the large coffeehouse model, the brand bet from the beginning on compact stores oriented to takeaway coffee, designed for the daily consumption of urban professionals.
Its positioning can be summed up as premium coffee at an accessible price: drinks around 15-20 yuan prepared with semi-automatic machines and trained baristas, demanding more craft than the fully automatic systems of its competitors. The menu combines espresso classics with original creations that incorporate Chinese ingredients, such as lattes with tea or flowers, and the company promotes sustainability with discounts for customers who bring their own cup.
Unlike most Chinese chains, Manner has grown exclusively through self-operated stores, without franchising, and has still surpassed two thousand coffee shops concentrated mainly in first-tier cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Backed by investors such as Temasek and ByteDance, the company has become the benchmark for affordable specialty coffee in China and is considering a listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange.
