About Hunan Airlines

Hunan Airlines is the first airline legally based in Hunan Province, where it settled in 2020 after moving its home from Yunnan. It was born in 2016 as Hongtu Airlines — the «red soil airline» — based in Kunming, adopted the English brand Air Travel, and, after the Hunan provincial government joined its shareholder base alongside online travel group Tongcheng, completed its renaming and relocation to Changsha.

Under IATA code A6, the company flies domestic services from its main base at Changsha Huanghua International Airport, with additional operating bases in Kunming, Nanjing and Wuxi. Its fleet consists of Airbus A320-family aircraft, including NEO units, and its network reaches around thirty Chinese cities, with a focus on tourist destinations and on central China's connectivity.

Hunan Airlines defines itself as an «internet plus» airline, leaning on the technology and distribution channels of its shareholder Tongcheng, and sells its tickets through its official portal a6air.com — a domain adopted in 2021 replacing its former redair.cn. The company is part of the so-called Changsha four-hour flight circle, which puts the Hunan capital within four hours' flying of most of East and Southeast Asia.
