Hemp Fortex Industries is a textile manufacturer founded in 1999 in Qingdao, Shandong Province, specialising in hemp as its signature fibre. It was created on the idea that fabrics can be luxurious and high-performing while remaining environmentally friendly, and it has become one of the world's longest-established hemp textile producers, employing around 1,700 people.
The company is vertically integrated: it sources the most environmentally sound fibres, spins its own yarns and knits and weaves its own fabrics, giving it stewardship over every stage of production. Its range covers woven and knitted hemp fabrics, blends with organic cotton, recycled polyester and Tencel, yarns for other makers, and a garment line producing 60,000 to 80,000 pieces a month — t-shirts, dresses, hoodies, bags and more.
Hemp Fortex dyes and finishes only with EU-approved chemicals, carefully monitors its wastewater, and holds certifications such as GOTS and OCS covering its yarns, fabrics and garments; it is also a factory member of the Fair Wear Foundation.
