About Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd.

Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd., known as BAW, is a Chinese automobile manufacturer founded in 1951 and creator of the historic BJ212 off-roader. Although it keeps its historic Beijing name, since 2020 its headquarters and main production base have been in Qingdao, Shandong Province. The company left BAIC Group after its sale to private investors and has been controlled by Shandong Weiqiao Pioneering Group since 2023; BAIC itself clarified in 2024 that it no longer holds any equity relationship with BAW.

Its range combines the 212 off-road brand, relaunched in 2024 with the petrol and diesel T01, with MPVs such as the Ruisheng Ace M7 and M8 in combustion and electric versions, pickup trucks, small trucks, the Yuanbao electric city car, and special and military vehicles. BAW integrates the design, R&D, production, sales and service of passenger cars, commercial vehicles and new-energy vehicles, with installed capacity in Qingdao of around 200,000 units a year.

The brand sells across markets in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America and is preparing its entry into Europe with the 212. Its identity still rests on the off-road ruggedness that made it famous, combined with growing electrification of its vans and urban cars for fleets and private customers.
