About Haikou Meilan International Airport

Haikou Meilan International Airport (code HAK) is the main airport of Hainan island and the air gateway to its capital, Haikou. Located in Meilan district, about 25 kilometres from the city centre, it is operated by Hainan Meilan International Airport Company Limited, a Hong Kong-listed company that manages both the aeronautical business and the airport's commercial activities.

The infrastructure has grown with Hainan's tourism and free trade port: its second phase added a new terminal and an additional runway able to handle larger aircraft and rising volumes of domestic and international passengers. The airport links Haikou with China's main cities and with destinations in Southeast Asia and other seasonal international routes.

Its official website, mainly in Chinese with some English content, provides flight information, passenger services, ground transport details and operational notices. As operator, the company is responsible for terminal management, airline services, security and the commercial development of shops and restaurants inside the airport, and it acts as the showcase of air connectivity for the whole province of Hainan.
